I never really felt that my beard or facial hair was a sign of rebellion. That's what I grew my hair out for. I started growing my hair right around the time I stopped attending meetings. I let it go for about four years before I finally got a real job and had to cut it. Sometimes I think about growing it back out again. I enjoyed it.

I wonder what his scriptural basis for this belief was. LOL

Higher education was discouraged when I was growing up. That wasnt too much of a problem for me at the time as I didnt feel I was college material. In hind sight this is a very sore issue for me. My sister had all the brains and she could have really done something with her self if given proper guidance and education. My younger brother however had my parents foot the bill for his college experiment of about a year and a half. He ended up quitting because he's irresponsible and stupid (I love him but that doesnt mean he's not stupid). Because there's ten years between him and myself the prevailing Witness view had shifted enough in those years for it to be acceptable for him but not for my self or my sister.

Are you a patient person?
by JH inare you the patient type, waiting and hoping that events will turn into your favour?.
did your patience pay off?
or, maybe you're not the patient type, and do things fast, and expect fast results.. .

Being a father of three young children I would have to say that I am a patient person. I also feel that my patience grows daily.

My 5 year old son was watching president Bush's speach regarding Iraq with my wife and myself the other night. After about five minutes of watching he commented that it was just like being at a meeting with Grandma. I carefully explained to him that I could understand why he felt that way but that president Bush is a politician not a Jehovah Witness and then he said "just like chancellor Palpatine!" (you have to be a Star Wars fan to appreciate). I smiled and thought thats my boy!

Once a pioneer brother and myself went to the front porch of a house. After knocking we heard a woman's voice from the second floor at the side of the house but we couldnt tell what she said. We walked to the side door of the house and we could hear her yelling "who is it". The brother responded that we were Witnesses but she couldnt hear him. After the second or third attempt of communicating throught this second story window she finally yelled "hang on, I'll be right there". When she came to the door she explained that she was in the middle of using the toilet. The brother responded that we were sorry to interrupt her, to which she replied "thats, OK. It already went back up in".

I couldnt grow one while attending meetings (too young). Now my wife wont let me shave with out throwing a temper tantrum. She says that I look like a "punk kid" with out it. However after reading Kwintestal's post Im begining to think that she's not being totally honest with me. LOL
I was always told as a kid that it was to be separate from "the world". Which makes a lot of sence when you think about it too because no one in "the world" clean shaven either, right?
